Hello! Cat here. Cake-ish by Cat is a food blog with cake, kinda-cake, and non-cake made by none other than (you guessed it) me, Cat.
Congratulations. You’ve struck a gold mine of recipes for healthy and vibrant eats that fuel my active lifestyle, keep me happy, and fit within my broke post-grad budget. If you’re looking for Goop, this isn’t the place.
A bit about my diet: I don’t use labels because I don’t have any. Years ago, I fell into restrictive eating patterns that wreaked havoc on my body, so today I choose to eat as consciously as I can without pushing myself to fully assume any specific way of eating. I focus on eating enough, eating intuitively, and emphasizing self-love, self-awareness, and self-care in my choices. The best way I can describe my intake is 50% fresh produce/some sort of protein, 50% oatmeal/pancakes/nut butter/trail mix/sweets/bread with daily dessert. Dairy sends me straight to the bathroom, so you won’t see much of that here.
I’m Chinese-American with an immigrant Chinese mother who’s an absolute weapon in the kitchen. Mom channels all of her post-menopausal angst into fiercely beating up eggs or dumpling stuffing or some sort of delicious homemade grub that I definitely took for granted growing up. No more of that. One of my goals for this blog is not just to share what I’m familiar with making and eating, but also to experiment with the traditional Chinese food I remember from my childhood. I’m going to try to “Cat-ize” my mother’s food to make it simpler and more nutrient-dense, but no less flavorful.
Sorry for one-upping you, Ma.

In all seriousness, thanks for visiting. It means so more to me than I can express.
